The Middle East, like every other region of the world, should not be subjected to the threat of nuclear weapons. Establishing a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) in the Middle East would help curb the proliferation of WMDs, uphold the authority and effectiveness of the international non-proliferation regime, and provide an important institutional mechanism for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
The current situation in the Middle East has heightened the concerns of the international community and regional countries over the Israeli nuclear issue. Israeli nuclear issue should be given greater attention within the framework of NPT and IAEA, where serious discussions should be held. We calls on Israel, as the only country in the Middle East that is not a party to the NPT, to join the Treaty at the earliest possible date as a non-nuclear-weapon state and place all its nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards.
