Chair,
China takes careful note to Director General Grossi's report on the latest developments, and appreciates the efforts made by the Director General, the Secretariat, and Syria in properly handling this issue. China welcomes the Director General's report on the conclusion that the IAEA has been able to clarify and resolve the previously outstanding safeguards implementation issues in Syria as reported to the Board of Governors.
China support the draft resolution submitted by Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia on the implementation of safeguards in Syria. We believes that the Director General's report and the briefings by the Secretariat have clearly indicated that all issues related to Syria's non‑compliance have been resolved. China supports the Board of Governors in concluding its consideration of the agenda item on the implementation of the NPT safeguards agreement in Syria, and calls on the Board to adopt the resolution by consensus.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres recently stated during his visit to Syria that Syria is facing an opportunity to lay the foundations for a future that is more stable, more inclusive and more prosperous for all Syrians. This statement reflects the international community's general view and shared expectations regarding the situation in Syria. China stands ready to continue working with the international community to play a constructive role in helping Syria achieve security and development at an early date and in restoring peace and stability in the Middle East as soon as possible.
