Thank you, Ms. Juma, for your briefing.

We fully agree with Ms Juma's remarks on strengthening the UN's authority, and making UNOV/UNODC more effective. We look forward to UNOV/UNODC paying greater attention to the concerns of the G77 and the Global South, and to working together to grow the cause of multilateralism in Vienna.

From our perspective, the GGI put forward by China is highly aligned with this goal. The essence of the GGI is to work with all parties to uphold the central role of the UN in international affairs and make it stronger. This initiative comes from China, but it is truly a global public good that benefits all. With the active support of relevant parties, China hosted the GGI-themed event this past April, and the Vienna Chapter of Group of Friends for Global Governance was established.

Earlier this month, my Mission circulated a white paper on global governance released by the Chinese government, which systematically elaborates on China’s propositions and practical pathways under the GGI.

Also recently, Foreign Minister Wang Yi put forward at UN Headquarters in New York 9 directions for advancing global governance reform. Many of the pathways in the white paper and the 9 reform directions are closely related to the work of the Vienna multilateral platforms — for example, sovereign equality, international rule of law, universal security, common development, and governance of emerging domains including cyberspace and outer space.

China stands ready to cooperate with all relevant parties, particularly the Group of Friends and Friends of the Group of the GGI, to better support and uphold the UN in fulfilling its mandate, boost multilateral cause in Vienna, and work with all sides to build a fairer, more inclusive and more effective global governance system.
