Mr. Chair,
China attaches great importance to the safety of nuclear facilities and supports the Agency and the Director General in strictly performing their responsibilities on nuclear safety, nuclear security, and safeguard in accordance with their mandates. We fully recognize the series of efforts undertaken by the Director General and the Secretariat to maintain the safety and security of nuclear power plants, which have helped prevent potential nuclear accidents. At the same time, the Agency should act strictly in line with its mandate and carry out its work within the scope defined by internationally recognized nuclear safety standards.
China has consistently maintained that the ultimate resolution of issues related to the safety, security, and safeguard of nuclear facilities depends on the prospects for a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. The international community should adhere to the correct direction of encouraging peace talks, encourage and support all efforts conducive to a peaceful resolution of the crisis, help the parties to the conflict open the door to a political settlement, and eliminate nuclear safety risks at the source. China calls on all parties to promote a proper resolution of the Ukraine crisis in a responsible manner.
Dialogue and negotiation are the only viable way out of the Ukraine crisis. China supports all efforts conducive to a peaceful resolution of the crisis. We will continue to take President Xi Jinping’s “Four principles” as our fundamental guiding, remain committed to encouraging peace talks, advance a political settlement of the crisis, work unremittingly to create conditions for peace, and build consensus. China sincerely welcomes all efforts conducive to a peaceful resolution of the crisis and will, together with other parties, continue to play a constructive role in advancing a political settlement of the crisis.
Thank you, Mr. Chair.
