Former President Dr. Heinz Fischer and Mrs. Margit Fischer,
President of the Federal Council Mr. Samt,
Ambassador Qi Mei,
Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,
It is my great pleasure to co-host this reception with Amb. Qi Mei.
Over the past 76 years, the Communist Party of China has led the Chinese people to achieve national independence and liberation, embark on the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The Chinese modernization scored remarkable achievements. The Chinese people firmly stand on the right side of history and the progress of human civilization. China will remain committed to the path of peaceful development, and join hands with all countries and peoples around the world in building a community with a shared future for humanity. Looking forward, China’s development will bring more opportunities to all countries and will make greater contributions to global prosperity, stability, and development.
Dear colleagues,
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. 80 years ago, China was the first among founding members to sign the UN Charter. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a major member of the Global South, China has always acted as a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, a defender of the international order, and a provider of public goods. We actively advocate for an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, contributing China’s wisdom and strength to the progress of human civilization.
80 years later, the world has found itself once again in turbulence and transformation. The Cold War mentality, hegemonism and protectionism continue to haunt the world. Global governance has come to a new crossroads. President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative to build a more just and equitable global governance system. The core concepts of the GGI include adhering to sovereign equality, abiding by international rule of law, practicing multilateralism, advocating the people-centered approach and focusing on taking real actions.
The Global Governance Initiative is totally in line with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. It is another important global public good that China has contributed to the world following President Xi’s initiatives on global development, global security and global civilization. We stand ready to work with all responsible countries to improve global governance through reform, adapt it to the requirements of the new era, truly safeguard the U.N. Charter and effectively practice multilateralism.
