After active mediation by China together with other Member States, Kazakhstan successfully joined the Far East Group during the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) November Board of Governors meeting, thereby resolving a long-standing issue that had hindered the country’s exercise of sovereign equality for more than 30 years. The important and constructive role played by China has been widely praised.

H.E. Ambassador Li Song, Permanent Representative of China to the IAEA, emphasized that President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative places the principle of sovereign equality at its core, advocating that all countries— regardless of size, strength or wealth, should participate equally, contribute equally, and benefit equally in global governance. China stands ready to make new contributions together to the reform, improvement and continuously strengthening of global governance.
H.E. Ambassador Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan, noted that at this historic moment, it’s also attached great importance to new global initiatives, particularly those proposed and advanced by China. He stressed that sovereign equality stands among the highest priorities within Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative, such pragmatic and deeply thoughtful approaches can strengthen and enhance the further work.
