The Permanent Mission of China to Vienna introduced the International Organization for Mediation at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna

On July 18, the Permanent Mission of China to Vienna co-hosted the Reception together with the Preparatory Office for the International Organization for Mediation to introduce the IOMed at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna. Ambassador Li Song highlighted that Mediation, as is clearly stated in the UN Charter, is one of the first means that should be tried in seeking peaceful solutions to international disputes, and it will fill an institutional gap in international mediation. The IOMed serves as an important public good in the field of the rule of law for better global governance, and is a new contribution made by China together with all parties to promote true multilateralism.

Secretary of UNCITRAL Ms. Anna Joubin-Bret, Co-Chair of the Asian Academy of International Law Ms. Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wa remarked highly of the significance of the establishment of the IOMed. Director of the IOMed Preparatory Office Doctor Sun Jin gave a comprehensive introduction to the IOMed, and welcomed the active participation of more countries.

    The guests commended China’s active role in promoting the establishment of the IOMed, which fully demonstrated the role of a responsible and constructive major country, and looked forward to the IOMed would effectively fostering peaceful cooperation, dialogue, and win-win outcomes among disputing parties in the future.
