The current situation on the Korean Peninsula remains complex and tense, ridden with uncertainties and destabilizing factors. Historical experience shows that military threats, sanctions, and pressure will only intensify conflicts and heighten tensions; only dialogue, engagement, and move towards each other can ease the situation and rebuild mutual trust. All parties should have the general interest in mind, keep calm and exercise restraint, avoid the deterioration and escalation of the situation, and ensure that the peninsula issue is not derailed from the track of political settlement. The US shall truly shoulder its part of the responsibilities, abandon its practice of unilateral sanctions and pressure, stop frequent military exercises, and demonstrate its sincerity through concrete actions.
As a close neighbour of the Peninsula and an important stakeholder in the Peninsula issue, China’s basic position on the Peninsula issue has not changed. China has always been striving for the political settlement of the Peninsula issue and maintaining peace and stability on the Peninsula. China is willing to work with the parties concerned and the international community to jointly promote the process of political settlement of the Peninsula issue in an objective and impartial manner.
