Mr. Chairman,
China takes note of the report on the Verification and Monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) submitted by the Director General on May 27, which confirms Iran’s implementation of nuclear-related commitments under the JCPOA, continues to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran and provides information on the latest developments in the bilateral engagement between the Agency and Iran. China welcomes the fact that on the whole the report helps to consolidate the international community’s confidence in the follow-up implementation of the JCPOA.
Mr. Chairman,
China is pleased to note that the Agency maintains sound cooperation with Iran and is actively carrying out verification and monitoring activities in Iran and appreciates the efforts made by the Secretariat and the Director General himself for this purpose. We hope that the Agency would continue the verification and monitoring of the nuclear activities in Iran with an objective, fair and professional manner in light of the United Nations Security Council resolution 2231 (2015) and the JCPOA.
China equally appreciates the active implementation by Iran of the nuclear-related commitments under the JCPOA and believes this reflects Iran’s political will committed to the JCPOA implementation. We encourage Iran to continue to maintain close communication and cooperation with the Agency and assist the Agency to carry out the verification and monitoring activities in Iran by closely following the provisions of the JCPOA.
Mr. Chairman,
On the whole, smooth progress has been made in the implementation of the JCPOA, but the follow-up implementation still has a long way to go. For the next phase, the P5+1 and Iran should continue to stick to their political commitment, eliminate external interference and appropriately handle differences to promote the comprehensive and balanced implementation of all the provisions of the JCPOA.
China is ready to continue to work closely with all parties, including the Agency and play a constructive role in promoting the follow-up implementation of the JCPOA.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
