Madam Chairperson,
The Chinese delegation thanks the Director General for his Report on the Verification and Monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) and the Secretariat for the briefing on this matter.
Madam Chairperson,
After years of arduous negotiations the P5+1, the EU and Iran finally reached the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian Nuclear Issue. The conclusion of the JCPOA is conducive to the preservation of the international non-proliferation regime and to regional and international peace and security, hence its importance is beyond doubt. The JCPOA is the result of the joint efforts of all parties concerned and symbolizes the aspiration for win-win and all-win outcomes. It has shown that negotiations and dialogues are the effective means of settling major regional or international issues.
China welcomes the conclusion of the JCPOA and appreciates the unflagging efforts and positive contributions of all parties in this process.
Madam Chairperson,
Reaching the JCPOA is the first step of the political solution to the Iranian Nuclear Issue and we look forward to its early implementation. We believe that all parties concerned should follow through their own commitments in a strict manner and ensure the comprehensive and balanced implementation of all provisions of the JCPOA.
The IAEA played a constructive role in the negotiation process and will shoulder important responsibility in the implementation of the JCPOA. China hopes that the Agency will abide by the spirit of impartiality, objectivity and professionalism, carry out relevant work in strict accordance with the Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) and the JCPOA and settle issues that may appear in the implementation process in a proper manner. We also expect Iran to maintain its close cooperation with the Agency.
China always attaches importance to safeguards-related work of the Agency and will consider in favorable terms making financial contributions as appropriate in support of relevant verification activities of the Agency in Iran.
With these comments, the Chinese Delegation takes note of the DG’s report on the Implementation and Monitoring in the Islamic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015),as well as recommendations contained in documents GOV/2015/53 and GOV/2015/54.
