Madam Chairperson,
The establishmentof the Middle East Zone free of Nuclear Weapons and other Weapons of Mass Destruction(WMD) is conducive to the prevention of the proliferation of WMD, relaxation ofthe tense situation in the Middle East Region, as well as enhancing peace andsecurity of the region and the whole world. China always supports the effortsof the international community for the realization of these goals.
To our regret, noconsensus was reached on this issue at the Ninth NPT Review Conference of theNuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. We hope that all parties concerned increasedialogue and actively explore ways and means to break the stalemate so as tocreate conditions for the convening of the relevant international conference atan early date.
China stands readyto continue to play a positive and constructive role in promoting theestablishment of the Middle East Zone free of Nuclear Weapons and other Weaponsof Mass Destruction.
