On May 8, the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Vienna hosted the second China-EU Heads of Mission Meeting in Vienna. Permanent Representatives from the EU and its member states attended. Both sides exchanged views on challenges facing Vienna-based multilateral institutions and key agenda items across international organizations in Vienna.

Ambassador Li Song, Permanent Representative of China to the UN and other International Organizations in Vienna emphasized that 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic ties, reiterating President Xi Jinping’s recent message in his congratulatory exchanges with EU leaders: "A sound and stable China-EU relationship not only works to the advantage of both sides but also brings benefits to the whole world." Against the backdrop of a turbulent global landscape and U.S. unilateralism severely undermining the UN system, Ambassador Li highlighted the necessity and timeliness of institutionalized China-EU dialogue on Vienna multilateral affairs, and expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with the EU in upholding multilateralism, defending fairness and justice, opposing unilateral bullying, and jointly advancing an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.

The dialogue was in an atmosphere of open, friendly, fruitful and constructive. China and the EU solidified the consensus on upholding the UN's mission and multilateralism, as well as further strengthening coordination and cooperation.
