On April 18, Ma Zhaoxu, Vice Foreign Minister & Coordinator of China's BRICS Affairs, held a meeting with diplomats from BRICS members and partner countries. Ma stated China's position on the US side's abuse of tariffs, calling on BRICS countries to jointly resist against unilateral bullying, safeguard the multilateral trading system and uphold international fairness and justice.

Ma stressed that tariff war or trade war produces no winner. China's resolute countermeasures are not only to safeguard its own legitimate rights and interests, but more importantly to uphold international rules and order, and common interests of the international community, especially Global South countries.

Ma said no matter how the international situation may evolve, China will actively promote high-standard opening up and strengthen cooperation with various sides to open up broader markets and development space.
