On October 15, the Group of Friends of Food Security in Vienna was officially launched at the UN headquarters in Vienna, with Permanent Representatives of various countries and senior officials from major international organizations in attendance. Ambassador LI Song, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, attended and delivered remarks.
Ambassador LI Song congratulated the Group on its launch and said that the Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping have provided inspiration and guidance for addressing the challenges of food security and promoting solutions to food security issues. The multilateral agenda in Vienna has unique advantages in the field of development, and can play a significant role in promoting the solution of food security issues through nuclear technology, industrial development, and space technology. China is willing to strongly support and actively participate in the work of the Group.
The United Nations Office at Vienna/United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and permanent missions of various countries to Vienna welcomed the launch of the Group, which will further promote communication and cooperation among international organizations in Vienna, raise awareness of all parties to food security and work together to achieve the goal of "Zero hunger".
