China will further promote multilateralism

On 10th September, the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Vienna held the reception in honor of H.E. Ambassador WANG Qun and spouse Mrs. ZHAO Yiwen on the occasion of his assumption of office. Over 200 guests attended the reception including H.E. Li Yong, Director General of UNIDO, H.E. Lassina Zerbo, Executive Secretary of CTBTO, Mr. Dennis Thatchaichawalit, Deputy Director General of UNOV, Mrs. Mary Alice Harward, Acting Director General of IAEA, H.E. Carlos Naranjo, President of G77 Vienna Chapter, H.E. Li Xiaosi, Ambassador of China to the Republic of Austria, Mr. Wang Yiren, Vice Chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority and Chinese Governor to IAEA as well as many other ambassadors as well as representatives of the Austrian Foreign Ministry and the Vienna municipal government and the UN staff with Chinese nationality.

"I will do my utmost to work together with all the colleagues here to further pursue multilateralism for the betterment of the global governance system, and to help foster a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind," said Ambassador WANG.

The role of multilateral diplomacy and the challenges it faces have never been greater than they are now and multilateralism has become ever more relevant, he told a gathering of about 200 international diplomats marking his assumption of office.

The fundamental norm of multilateralism is to address international issues through consultation on the basis of agreed-rules with each other's interests and concerns taken into consideration, Ambassador WANG said.

China will stay committed to firmly supporting the United Nations and its role, and its policy of firmly supporting multilateralism will remain unchanged, he said.

China has been firm and unequivocal in undertaking dialogues and consultations in pursuit of enduring peace, and in advancing inclusive, balanced and sustainable development in the spirit of openness, he added.

It has been firm and unequivocal in promoting the betterment of the global governance system through multilateralism while committing itself to the vision of consultation, cooperation and benefit for all in global governance, Ambassador WANG said.

And it has also been firm and unequivocal in building a new type of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness and justice and win-win cooperation through partnership, Ambassador WANG said.

   

In their remarks, DG LI Yong, Executive Secretary Zerbo and DDG Thatchaichawalit expressed warm welcome to Ambassador WANG Qun on his assumption of office and high appreciation for China's firm pursuit of multilateralism against the backdrop of the severe challenges confronting multilateralism as well as China's full support for strengthening the role of the United Nations and the rule-based multilateral order for the betterment of global governance. They expect to enhance the cooperation with China in various fields from industrial development, non-proliferation, to drug control, transnational crime, and anti-corruption. They look forward to working together with Ambassador WANG and the Chinese Permanent Mission to promote Vienna's multilateral agenda and the global governance of the relevant areas.
